9.2.5 MARKETPLACE MINISTRY - DRAFT FOR DISCUSSION

Draft for discussion:

“9.2.5 MARKETPLACE MINISTRY”

We would appreciate your comments on the establishment of a 9.2.5 ministry through our local churches under the covering of our pastors.

We have heard a lot about the 10/40 window of unreached people groups over the last ten years.  These people represent those who have never heard the gospel.  However, the “9 to 5” window, where the majority of people spend the majority of their time, also has a large number of unreached people who have the power to impact the entire world for Jesus Christ once they make a commitment to Him and begin to walk in their destiny.

Today, we are seeing a move of God amongst men and women in the 9 to 5 Window, the place where real societal change can take place because of the strategic position many of these believers hold in society.  I believe equipping and commissioning this group is key to city and nation transformation.(Os Hillman)

These ministries would function as an additional ministry / mission in the Church, using current marketplace persons already in the Church to form a nucleus of members to become involved in marketplace ministry outside the Church.

“Many similar ministries were birthed outside the local Church and have often been seen by the Church Leaders as competition to the local Church.  Many ministries like these have been started because the local Church has not understood their people’s need to reflect their faith in the market place” (Os Hillman).  Our approach as mentioned above, aims to work in partnership with the local church.

Different churches may choose to meet as frequently as they wish, but we would recommend that a monthly / quarterly meeting would suffice.  We would encourage groups to use the local Church as their home base.

We don’t think it is necessary to re-invent the wheel and we would recommend as guidelines, Marketplace Ministers such as Os Hillman and Ed Silvoso, and authors such as C Peter Wagner, J  Gunnar Olson and John D Beckett to assist us to develop our own South African “9.2.5” brand.

A possible way forward for some of the more committed businesspersons would be to establish a NM Bay Transformation Business Network (TBN), which could create a forum for the individual church based marketplace ministries as well as existing Christian Business organizations to network.  This forum could in turn liaise with the International Transformation Network (ITN) being promoted at the moment by Graham Power and Ed Silvoso.

The first step would be to approach a number of local church pastors with a representative of their businesspersons and strategize on a way forward.
