SASCOL : THE ULTIMATE GOAL
|
|
|
The South African Sports Coalition (SASCOL) is affiliated to the International Sports Coalition (ISC) whose focus is to organize a sports ministry during all major world sporting events like the Olympic Games (IOC), the Soccer World Cup (FIFA) etc.
SASCOL has organized a sports ministry around the 2010 World Cup tournament called THE ULTIMATE GOAL. The vision of the project is to share the Love and Message of Christ in many different ways with players, their families, coaches, officials, game organizers, visitors, fans and local residents
The East Cape Region has decided to focus on promoting sound values and leadership development through life skills coaching and training; fighting crime by utilizing Ubabalo eAfrica and Global Community Games programmes to attract, retain and positively impact our youth through activities that provide healthy alternatives to crime; contributing to the fight against HIV & Aids by focusing on an initiative with the Grade 7’s in all schools for the next five years; to act against family breakdown with special emphasis on the role of men and getting families to play and do things together; nation building and finally building a legacy for beyond 2010.
A Plan of Action defining the roles of and utilizing the existing structures of churches, schools, business and government are clearly set out in the guidelines. Exciting activities are planned for the extended June-July 2010 school holidays.
A key element of the initiative is to establish community sports academies in schools throughout our province. These academies would facilitate the ongoing training and equipping of coaches and co-ordinators. Our dream is to see every school in our province equipped with a permanent sports life skills coach. There is a comprehensive menu of outreach initiatives that participants may choose to promote in their area. These range from various projects, programmes, communication exercises to hospitality centres i.e. Mini Grahamstown/ Oudtshoorn festivals.
The EC will utilize the already established seven provincial districts to roll out this initiative.
It has a unique plan partnering with the NGKOK to establish an initial communication network. The guidelines focus on the establishment of prayer networks, local organizing committees, HUB churches and schools and training academies. To facilitate effective communication, SASCOL EC will make extensive use of technology (e-mails, sms’s, faxes and ‘skype’) and establish a user friendly database and website. HUB Churches will be used extensively to communicate to less privileged communities.
The choice of projects must be specific to the needs of local communities in order to promote a culture of ownership and therefore funding must be raised locally. The four critical factors that will determine the success of this initiative are: the formation of prayer networks, effective marketing and communication, the training of coaches and co-ordinators and the establishing of effective local committees by facilitators.
